Seattle
The Seattle area ranks among the top 10 places to live in the country. It’s home to not only Microsoft, but to more than 2,000 other software and digital media companies and 3.5 million people. Snow-capped peaks dominate the horizon in all directions. Shimmering blue water comes into view at practically every turn. The climate is mild. And while Seattle does have its share of cloudy and misty days, it actually gets less rain each year than Atlanta, Boston, Houston, New York, or Philadelphia.
Add to this picture a dynamic urban culture, distinctive neighborhoods, great restaurants, a family-friendly atmosphere, a world-class music, arts, and entertainment scene, and countless recreational options, and we think you’ll discover that this is truly a special place.
Located 13 miles from Seattle, the Microsoft corporate campus in Redmond, Washington, is home to most of our product development and core operations. With its own lake and offices nestled among tall evergreens, rolling lawns, and landscaped gardens, our campus is more like a park than your typical corporate headquarters.
Ours is an environment designed to help you relax and recharge throughout your day. You’ll find a baseball diamond, basketball courts, and miles of running and hiking trails, along with foosball, ping pong, and video games in many buildings. Inside our facilities, four thousand works of art from our permanent collection are on display. Excellent on-campus dining facilities, the Microsoft Museum, and the Microsoft Company Store are just a few of the many campus amenities we provide.

Silicon Valley
The California coast to the west. San Francisco and the wine country to the north. Monterey Bay to the south. Lake Tahoe’s 15 alpine ski resorts to the east. Some of the world’s greatest universities, all within an hour’s drive. And Microsoft Silicon Valley—centered in Mountain View—is right in the middle of it all.
Many of us came from other local startups and tech heavyweights. Some have even founded a company or two. We joined Microsoft Silicon Valley because we wanted to work for a company with the resources and financial muscle to help our visions become reality. And that really happens here.
Boston
Boston is the epicenter of U.S. history, home to some of the world’s most prestigious universities, a capital city of culture, and winner of many professional sports championships. The area also boasts cutting-edge technology, biotech, and healthcare companies and a vibrant investment and startup community. Plus, it’s where you’ll find nearly 1,000 passionate Microsoft employees working in sales, marketing, research, and development.
In nearby Cambridge, you’ll find our Microsoft New England Research & Development Center “vertical campus,” with sweeping views of the Charles River and Boston skyline. Research and development teams including Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V), Microsoft Research New England, Future Social Experiences (FUSE) Labs, and others work on technologies spanning our many businesses and professions.
Our other Boston-area operations include district sales and Navic TV advertising measurement tools in Waltham, Groove collaboration software in Beverly, and FAST Search & Transfer enterprise search technology in Needham. There’s also Danger mobile communication and entertainment software in Billerica, and Razorfish digital design and marketing in Cambridge. For variety and vibrancy, it’s hard to top Boston—and it’s hard to top Microsoft in the Boston area.
Charlotte, Raleigh/Durham
Life in Charlotte is just about as good as it gets. Brimming with arts, culture, and professional sports, we’re North Carolina’s largest and most walkable city.
The Charlotte area hosts one of Microsoft’s largest U.S. facilities. Most of our 1,000 employees work with Fortune 500 and other enterprise customers and partners to provide sales, consulting, and support services for major products including Exchange, Windows, Office, and SQL Server. The Raleigh Research Triangle Park (RTP) facility—just a few hours away—is home to our Microsoft Advertising and Visual Studio development teams.
We’re committed to expanding opportunities through technology. Since 2003, our local offices have given and matched employee gifts totaling more than $70.2 million in cash, curriculum, and software—all focused on the state of North Carolina.
Under frequently clear, blue skies, we take advantage of campus basketball and volleyball courts and a golf driving range. Outside our immediate area, great ski resorts are just two hours west and the amazing Carolina coast is only 3 hours east. And, with many family-oriented events, Microsoft Charlotte welcomes our families with open arms.
Raleigh and Durham are two cities included in the research triangle region of the Southeast; the area is in close proximity to mountains, beaches, and famous golf courses and home to many pro sports teams, including the Panthers (NFL), Bobcats (NBA), Hurricanes (NHL), and Sting (WNBA). Raleigh is ranked #3 on Forbes list of America’s Cleanest Cities.
Dallas/Fort Worth
We’re drawn to the Dallas/Fort Worth area for many reasons. Among them are its moderate weather and abundant recreation, including top-tier golf courses and hundreds of public parks, lakes, and reservoirs. Then there are its six major professional sports teams, the country’s largest urban arts scene, world-class museums, and numerous performance venues. And there’s its unrivaled shopping. All this, for a cost of living below the national average and way below that of major east and west coast cities.
Dallas/Fort Worth is second only to Silicon Valley in the number of U.S. technology companies that call it home. Among those is Microsoft, whose 32-acre Las Colinas campus is located located just 12 miles from downtown Dallas. Las Colinas houses a major customer service and support center, with many of our 1,700+ employees working in technical support, sales, and consulting.
Across our campus, you’ll find many works from Microsoft’s renowned art collection, which features emerging and mid-career artists from around the world. We also demonstrate a strong commitment to our communities: Since 2003, we’ve donated $85 million in cash, curricula, and software—including matching employee gifts—to the state of Texas.
Fargo
Work at Microsoft and still enjoy the laid-back Midwest lifestyle. At our Fargo campus, we develop and support major software products like Dynamics, Office, SQL Server, and Visual Studio — and we get to do it in America’s heartland.
Established in 2001 with our acquisition of Great Plains Software, the Fargo campus is now home to a major Microsoft Dynamics development center. In addition to research and development, you’ll also find customer service and support, IT, inside sales, and marketing teams. Plus, we have a team of accountants and specialists who manage our U.S. payroll, global headcount operations, and other operational and financial needs for the entire company. We also run one of Microsoft’s nine Executive Briefing Centers.
There’s a lot to love about Fargo. The commute to work tops out around 15 minutes. Our communities are tight-knit. And contrary to what you might have heard, it doesn’t snow year-round here. We enjoy four distinct seasons: our springs are mild, summers are warm and beautiful, and falls are cool and colorful. We work with some of the brightest and friendliest people in our industry. We have a culture of working hard—and having fun—together.

The Long Island Gold Coast region appeals to those who want to be close to everything New York City has to offer, balanced with numerous opportunities for golf, fishing, and other types of outdoor recreation in a number of scenic communities.
Washington, D.C.
D.C.’s reputation precedes it. Our nation’s capital is colorful and vibrant—the heart of American history, culture, and politics. It’s also the most highly educated and most fit city in the country. And here’s another top ranking to consider: Microsoft is ranked among the best places to work in the D.C. area.
Our main office here is our campus in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Other offices are located in downtown D.C. and in Reston and Richmond, Virginia. Our businesses include the Health Solutions Group, Commercial & Public Sector sales, Government & Public Affairs, and Legal & Corporate Affairs. You’ll find a broad range of jobs here: software engineers, consultants, marketers, attorneys, paralegals, lobbyists, and more.
Since 2003, Microsoft and its 1,000 D.C.-area employees have contributed some $82 million in cash, software, and curricula to local non-profit organizations. Our grants and programs help these groups expand their use of technology and provide residents with training and technology to better qualify them for jobs and opportunities in the digital economy.
