Maternity and parental leave

Maternity leave. New birth mothers receive 8 weeks of paid maternity disability leave, and may also take short-term disability (STD) leave starting 2 weeks in advance of their scheduled due date.

Parental leave. For births, adoptions, or foster placements parents will receive 12 weeks of fully paid parental leave to bond with their new family.

Savings and investments

401(k) plan. We match $0.50 for every pre-tax or Roth dollar that you save. So if you reach the pre-tax/Roth contribution limit (equal to $18,000 in 2017), Microsoft will give you an additional $9,000 in matching contributions! For additional tax-advantaged savings, contribute up to $20,000 on an after-tax basis each year and convert to Roth. Also, if you will be age 50 or older this year, consider making catch-up contributions as well.

Employee stock purchase plan. Each quarter, we can purchase Microsoft stock at a 10% discount off the market price during a defined purchase period.

Training and development

In addition to tuition and textbook reimbursement for approved work-related courses, we offer amazing internal resources such as technical, management and professional development classes, a visiting speaker series, TechFest and even our own library.

Time off

15 paid vacation days, 10 paid sick-leave days, and 10 paid U.S. holidays, plus two personal days to call your own each year.


Volunteer and gift matching. Donate cash, stock or products to your favorite nonprofit agency, and we’ll match dollar-for-dollar up to $15,000 per year. Volunteer your time in the community, and we will donate $25 per hour to the eligible organizations you serve.

Gyms and fitness. We offer paid memberships to full-service gyms or extra dollars in your pocket to spend on your own fitness program.

On-campus retail shops and sports fields. Work and play at the campus social hub, The Commons, which offers a salon and mini-day spa, mail center, bank and 11 different restaurants. Spend your free time browsing our retail shops for the latest bike and ski gear. Drop off your dry cleaning. Join in a pickup soccer, basketball or cricket game on our sports fields. Play an impromptu round of Xbox with co-workers.

Sports equipment check out. Need a break? Check out Frisbees, basketballs, soccer balls, bocce balls, footballs, volleyballs and even bicycles to enjoy the most our campus has to offer.

On-campus cafes and kitchens. On our Redmond campus alone, we have 33 cafes, 37 espresso stands and 500 kitchenettes stocked with 35 different types of free beverages. Our employees eat 35,000 meals a day, and we’re the only “3 star green” corporate dining operation in the world!

Microsoft Connector shuttle and bus fleet. 55 wi-fi and power-enabled coaches and shuttles transport employees from their Seattle-area homes to work and back, saving 200,000 car rides per year. Once on campus, our shuttles make hopping from building to building quick and easy. During your interviews, you’ll get a preview of this service via our exclusive recruit shuttle.

Social clubs. From dodgeball to photography to theater, we’ve probably got the social club for you—and if we don’t, start one!
