Principal Engineering Lead - Movies & TV App - Release Studios

Our Movies & TV app is changing how our Windows fans enjoy video across each of our devices.   We are looking for a Principal Software Engineering Lead to manage and inspire a team at Microsoft Vancouver to further evolve Movies & TV as a showcase Windows app. This leadership and technical role will involve deep partnership with the engineering leaders within our studio in Redmond and across our global partner organizations. App updates built by your team will be in the hands of millions of customers within weeks of completing it.  

As a Principal SE Lead of a combined engineering team, you will be expected to collaborate with your program management and design partners to manage your product backlog and be accountable to release on a regular cadence with consistently high quality. You should have strong technical skills, prior experience with modern user-experience development, experience leading and growing engineering teams, and an ability to work in a dynamic and collaborative team environment.

Core responsibilities:

- Engineering leadership: Hire, manage, and grow a thriving team of engineers and be a role model for technical excellence and customer quality.

- Collaborate: Partner with Microsoft Redmond and other global product teams to manage dependencies, jointly deliver app updates, and continuously improve our engineering and production capabilities.

- Communications & planning: Clearly communicate engineering roadmap, backlog, and team updates across the organization.

- Computer Science, Engineering, or other technical degree.

- At least 8+ years' experience writing code with C++.

- Successful experience managing teams of 5 or more developers.

- Experience working through the full product cycle from initial design to final product Useful Experience.

- Building modern app user-experiences (XAML, HTML5, or equivalent).

- Building digital video delivery applications (MPG, H.264, or similar).

- SCRUM/Agile development methodologies.
