Business Manager

Do you have the desire to be a part of the senior leadership team of an engineering group at Microsoft that codes with partners and customers? Do you want to help shape and drive the strategic direction of our team of software engineers and PMs? Do you have experience making an impact in fast paced, high bandwidth teams? If so, you could be a perfect candidate for our open Business Manager role.

The TED team enables high impact organizations to achieve more and drive the value of our cloud. How do we do it? We are an industry-leading software engineering team who codes with partners and customers every day, and we need experienced business professionals to ensure that the business runs smoothly and our engineers can focus on coding.

This position is responsible for managing the businesses of three of our engineering and PM teams, and reports to the Chief of Staff (CoS) of the organization. The role ensures excellent execution of operational aspects of running a large, global, and highly technical team. You will be part of the Business Manager team in TED, and work with the other BMs to deliver operational excellence. You will be responsible for the planning, coordination, composition, and execution of cross organization projects. You will be responsible for the budgets and quarterly forecasts of your three teams. You will support your leaders in planning leadership offsite, driving the agenda of strategic decisions, and representing your team’s best interests. To do this successfully, you should understand the key behavior drivers of our customers, partners, and internal Microsoft stakeholders. You will partner with the rest of the TED Corp team, Finance, HR, and administrative staff on key business processes, and lead special projects.

This is an extraordinary opportunity to help chart the future direction of how Microsoft codes with partners and customers while working side by side with the leadership team. You will interface regularly with John Shewchuk, the Technical Fellow for TED, as well as the TED LT and leadership teams across Business Groups and Development Groups. This is a great learning opportunity for a candidate who is a functional expert today, but wants to broaden his/her perspective on how an end-to-end technical team is run, enabling growth to positions with broader scope and responsibility.

Core responsibilities:

•Submit budget/forecast templates in coordination with CoS

•Partner with leadership to increase employee engagement and drive internal and external communications

•Recruiting, hiring, and organizational planning in association with approved headcount, per your leaders needs and CoS approval

•Drive rhythm of business (RoB) management and deliverables for your leaders, as needed

•Partner with peer business managers across the larger business unit to align RoB and execution activities and drive common goals and deliverables

•Manage internal tools (e.g. SharePoint, Microsoft Teams) as needed

Basic Qualifications:

•5+ years of business management or marketing or consulting or program/project management experience

•2+ years’ experience in managing budget planning
