Principal Program Manager

We're driving the transformation of a billion-dollar product, Office, into a fast moving, modern service that delivers mobility of experience across all end-points.


Office is changing rapidly, transforming its legacy codebase into a collection of services and client applications that deliver modern productivity and collaboration experiences across a member network. The Office Engineering team is at the heart of this transformation, focusing on:


- Enabling developers to build services that light up in the big Office apps while transforming the codebase to become better componentized and easier to reuse.


- Making it efficient for developers to deliver new experiences across all platforms (iOS, Mac, Android, ARM, Windows desktop and UWP) rapidly - fixes within hours, new features on a weekly cadence


- Modernizing the toolset that Office engineers use and in collaboration with other Engineering teams at Microsoft building One Engineering System (1ES) to make developers more efficient and satisfied.



This is a team that delivers big transformations and looks for 10x improvements. Given the importance of these changes to the business, this is a high visibility role. Office engineering leads and managers are customers of your work and VPs will care about the success of your efforts.



Responsibilities include:


- Driving and innovating Office Engineering initiatives, measuring and using experimentation and data to drive decisions and direction


- Helping the Office organization transition towards a rapidly shipping, highly accountable form of agile where engineers make continuous low-debt improvements


- Developing strong partnerships with engineers across Office to gain a deep understanding of how they get their work done.

- Leverage these partnerships to drive the vision and improvement of tools and process at a strategic level


- Keeping up-to-date with engineering best practices, technologies and techniques across the industry and cross-group within Microsoft


- Driving alignment with, and pushing Office requirements to, the One Microsoft Engineering vision



Requirements:


- Proven technical skills and independence


- Excellent cross-discipline leadership, collaboration and influencing skills.


- Lead, drive change and influence without authority across groups


- Experience leading with and making decisions based on data and metrics


- Experience defining, measuring, innovating and driving change in large-scale software products and systems such as Office  

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate business problems, alternatives, and product strategy


- Ability to concisely frame problems and design simple solutions


- 7+ years of experience working in the software industry
