Principal Software Engineer

Microsoft is seeking an experienced software engineer to join Yammer’s core Messaging Team in San Francisco who will shape the future of Yammer's messaging subsystems to support the scale of Microsoft and enable deeper integrations with the Office365 suite. Millions of Office365 customers rely on Yammer to communicate every day; you will be responsible for delivering a stable messaging pipeline, low-latency delivery, high service availability, and above all, an exceptional communication experience for our global customers.

As a Principal engineer on the team, you will be responsible for leading both technical strategy and project delivery related to the messaging pipeline, including: API design, message ingestion, addressing & routing, fanout delivery, message feed modeling and hydration, plus real-time capabilities for web, mobile and desktop clients.


- You have designed and delivered global, reliable, secure, near-real-time messaging systems scaling to audiences in the hundreds of millions.

- You have developed solutions for message feeds, inboxes, high volume fanout deliveries, and real-time architectures supporting global web, mobile and desktop clients.

- You have deep experience leveraging cloud architecture, applying site reliability principles, and demonstrating acute sensitivity to operational concerns.

- You have demonstrated experience successfully leading complex, large-scale projects with local and remote partner teams.

- You are enthusiastic about partnering and working collaboratively with people across Microsoft.  


- A BS in Computer Science

- 8+ years of experience in software engineering.

- 3 years' experience designing and delivering large-scale messaging systems.
