Principal Engineering Manager, Front End

Companies around the world use Yammer to allow their employees to communicate and collaborate openly. This makes workplaces more effective and makes employees happier and more engaged. We know this for a fact because we are not only building Yammer; we're using it every day to do our jobs. We are building more than a product and trying to change work for the better. We need people who are enthusiastic, who ask great questions, who have strong opinions but are happy to admit when they are wrong, and who enjoy collaborating with a cross-functional team. We hire talented people, expect everyone to learn and grow, and trust everyone to make day-to-day decisions. We care most about creating products people love. We move quickly, we experiment, we iterate, and we value learning over shipping features.

As a Principal Engineering Manager, you must have a proven track record leading a large team of engineers spanning all aspects of software engineering life cycle. We need someone who is hands-on, detail-oriented, and obsessed with building a world-class user experience. The day to day responsibilities include a blend of technical, hands-on leadership with strong people management and talent attraction skills.

What you'll be doing:

- Managing a team of around 12 Web engineers

- Mentoring people, helping them grow, and develop their careers

- Partnering with a Product Manager to lead feature execution across engineering disciplines to deliver great experiences

- Providing oversight, accountability, and leadership for technical decisions

- Collaborating with other product and engineering teams at Yammer and the rest of Microsoft

- 2+ years of management experience

- 8+ years of software engineering experience building front-end & server/service applications

- Deep knowledge of JavaScript, CSS and HTML

- Experience building fast, reusable, testable UI components under MVC or MVVM frameworks.

- Experience with React.js is a huge plus.

- Goes above and beyond to create high-quality, stable products that customers enjoy using

- Brings people together across teams to successfully collaborate on innovative solutions

- Creates an inclusive and fun work environment where every employee engages effectively

- Cares deeply about growing people, is an excellent coach, and acts as a role model

The Yammer product is used by all kinds of people, so that diversity of experiences is critical to how we develop. We believe in sane work hours, using our vacation time, continuing to learn on the job, and we offer paid parental leave.
