One of the key things we are looking for is passion for technology, both in the classroom and outside of the classroom through activities such as internships, student groups, hackathons, projects, etc. We also look for relevant experience or skillsets aligned to the role you're applying for. Review the job descriptions and qualifications and use those keywords as a framework for writing your resume. We also recruit on LinkedIn, so make sure you complete your LinkedIn profile with your relevant experiences!

All roles are posted on our careers site. We hire for almost every role available across the company. Once candidates submit their application, they can track it via their action center on the careers site. If selected for an interview, a recruiter or scheduler will contact them directly via email within 90 days of their application submission. Job opportunities may be posted at different times throughout the year, so please keep an eye out and you can set up job alerts. We continually update the Microsoft careers site so it reflects the most up-to-date information available on current openings.

The degree requirements are always listed in the job description under the qualifications section. Please check there when exploring job opportunities. Skills and experience, in addition to your major, are also considered when applications are reviewed.

Candidates need to apply online to be considered. The interview process varies depending on the role. Interview preparation and details are communicated to candidates when they are invited to interviews. All interviews are conducted virtually.

At the first round screen: Candidates are selected and assessed for a functional role at Microsoft, like mechanical engineer or software engineer. At this stage, you are being considered for all teams across Microsoft that may hire for that functional role.

At the final round interviews: During the final round of interviews, you are being assessed for a specific role within an organization across the company, like Cloud + AI. Both the feedback from your interviews as well as what you share interests you share with your recruiters and interviewers (location, technology level, etc.) will inform which team you are matched with based on our openings.

Recruiters will continue accepting applications until all positions are filled. A recruiter will review your application and contact you directly if you are selected for interviews. You can track the real-time status of your application on your action center on the Microsoft careers site. Please allow up to 90 days to receive a decision on your application. Be sure to check both the “Active” and “Inactive” folders in the Action Center.

This is a normal part of our recruiting process in which the system moves your application to the dashboard of a specific aligned recruiter or recruiting team. That recruiter can now see your application on their dashboard and will actively begin reviewing. It’s the same position, just routed to a recruiter’s dashboard now.

We will update your application status as soon as possible, but due to the high volume of applicants, please allow up to 90 days for a decision to be made on your application. We unfortunately cannot expedite your application review for competing offer deadlines.

Yes, you can make updates by logging into the Microsoft global careers site and navigating to your profile! You can upload your updated resume that will replace your old one. From https://careers.microsoft.com/us/en, sign in to your account. Navigate to the top right where it says your name. Click on “Profile” and select the option to add your resume. If you have any issues – you can submit a support request on the careers site to get your issue resolved.

Yes, you can create a profile on the careers site without applying to a job! Navigate to https://careers.microsoft.com and choose your sign in method to start creating your profile. Please note that you will still have to submit a job application to be considered for a role.

No, referrals are not required. We are committed to maintaining a fair and unbiased hiring process. Candidates submitted as referrals will be given equal consideration and prioritization as all other candidates during each stage of the recruiting process. You do not need to solicit a referral in order to submit your application.

Most of our internships take place in the summer period. There are a few exceptions for specific school programs, visa complications, emergencies, international candidates, etc.

Microsoft supports a flexible work environment, but there are some teams/positions that require their employees to be onsite. Each job posting lists a specific location, please only apply to the locations where you would be interested in working. Work with your recruiters to determine if remote work is an option.

Yes, your Microsoft internship can be used for credit at your university as long as you abide by all other “for credit” criteria. Microsoft will only complete 1 standard form as proof of internship. You must ensure your university will accept this form. No other forms will be considered or completed. You must complete your proof of internship form before offboarding, and make your intentions to use your internship for credit clear at the start of your internship both to your recruiter and manager. This form will be available via your recruiter after you receive an offer to Microsoft. If your intention is to use your internship for credit, we suggest you inform your university as soon as possible that Microsoft will only utilize our internal process and form to confirm your internship completion.
